{"id":3141,"date":"2025-03-19T18:28:42","date_gmt":"2025-03-19T16:28:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambhelsinki.esteri.it\/?page_id=3141"},"modified":"2026-06-25T12:06:11","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T09:06:11","slug":"study-visa-visa-for-students-enrolling-in-full-italian-university-programs-bachelors-masters-phds","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ambhelsinki.esteri.it\/it\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/visti\/study-visa-visa-for-students-enrolling-in-full-italian-university-programs-bachelors-masters-phds\/","title":{"rendered":"STUDY VISA VISA FOR STUDENTS ENROLLING IN FULL ITALIAN UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS (Bachelors, Masters, PhDs)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Academic years 2026\/2027 and 2027\/2028<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) issued the procedures and timetables concerning the entry, stay and enrolment of foreign students in higher education courses in Italy for academic years 2026\/2027 and 2027\/2028 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.studiare-in-italia.it\/studentistranieri\">http:\/\/www.studiare-in-italia.it\/studentistranieri<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Before applying, the student is required to <strong>pre-enrol through the designated portal, <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.universitaly.it\/\">www.universitaly.it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pre-enrolling through Universitaly is <u>mandatory<\/u> for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor Degree courses,<\/li>\n<li>Master Degree courses (two-year or single-cycle programs),<\/li>\n<li>Single Learning activities,<\/li>\n<li>courses of Institutions of High Artistic, Musical and Choreographic Education (<em>AFAM<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>Courses provided by the Higher Schools of Linguistic Mediation (<em>SSML<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>International mobility programs (such as <em>Erasmus, Erasmus+<\/em>, <em>Marco Polo <\/em>and <em>Turandot<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>Courses provided by Advanced Specialization Schools,<\/li>\n<li>PhD,<\/li>\n<li>Specialization courses,<\/li>\n<li>First and second level Masters,<\/li>\n<li>Courses of Italian culture and language at the University \u201cRoma Tre\u201d\/University for foreigners of Perugia\/University of Siena, University \u201cDante Alighieri\u201d of Reggio Calabria,<\/li>\n<li>Foundation courses,<\/li>\n<li>Courses provided by Institutes of Specialization in Psychotherapy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Pre-enrolling through \u201cUniversitaly\u201d is not required for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Post-graduate Technical Specialization courses provided by Higher Technical Institutes (ITS Academies),<\/li>\n<li>Undergraduate or post-graduate courses at Pontifical Universities,<\/li>\n<li>Private universities or Higher Educational Institutes not accredited by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR),<\/li>\n<li>Courses organized by <em>Istituto Universitario Europeo di Firenze<\/em>, European University Institute, European Public Law Organization<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The candidate is eligible for Study Visa application <u>only once:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li><strong>the pre-enrollment has been validated by the competent University, <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>the candidate collected all the required documentation <\/strong>(see below, \u201cHow to apply\u201d).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Please, note that only students who are\u00a0<u>enrolling in the first year<\/u>\u00a0of the study course are allowed to apply for a study visa. Students who are about to attend academic years other than the first year must use their residence permit or the receipt of application renewal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>STUDY-VISA APPLICATION DEADLINE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic year 2026\/2027: application deadline 30<\/strong><strong><sup>th<\/sup><\/strong><strong>\u00a0November 2026 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic year 2027\/2028: application deadline 31<sup>st<\/sup> October 2027<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>for the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor Degree courses,<\/li>\n<li>Master Degree courses (two-year or single-cycle programs),<\/li>\n<li>Bachelor Degree courses of Institutions of High Artistic, Musical and Choreographic Education (<em>AFAM<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>courses provided by the Higher Schools of Linguistic Mediation (<em>SSML<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li>international mobility programs (<em>Marco Polo <\/em>or\u00a0<em>Turandot<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>courses provided by Institutes of Specialization in Psychotherapy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Any time of the year,\u00a0in accordance with the start of the course<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Postgraduate Master\u2019s programs,<\/li>\n<li>PhD,<\/li>\n<li>Single Learning activities,<\/li>\n<li>Master Degree courses and Single Learning Activities of Institutions of High Artistic, Musical and Choreographic Education (<em>AFAM<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li><em>Erasmus<\/em>, <em>Erasmus<\/em> <em>+<\/em> programs<\/li>\n<li>courses at Advanced Specialization Schools,<\/li>\n<li>courses of Italian culture and language,<\/li>\n<li>foundation courses,<\/li>\n<li>Post-graduate Technical Specialization courses provided by Higher Technical Institutes (ITS).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>HOW TO APPLY<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applications must be submitted <strong>no less than<\/strong> <strong>15 days before the travel date<\/strong>, <u>with an advance of maximum 6 months<\/u>.<\/p>\n<p><u>Processing time of the procedure<\/u>: up to 90 days. It is advisable to contact the Embassy with adequate advance.<\/p>\n<p>An incomplete application may be rejected or entail longer processing time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>APPLICATION PROCESS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The candidate is required to contact this Embassy via email<\/strong> (see below, \u201cContact information\u201d)<strong> only once:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li><strong>the pre-enrollment has been validated by the competent University, <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>the candidate collected all the following required documentation <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Required documentation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><u>Valid passport<\/u>. Note that the passport must be valid for at least three months after the Visa expiration date, and must have at least two blank pages. The passport will be stored at this Embassy and given back together with the visa, if approved;<\/li>\n<li><u>Valid Finnish residence permit<\/u>;<\/li>\n<li>Duly completed <a href=\"https:\/\/ambhelsinki.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Formulario-Visto-Nazionale-ING-ITA_2025.pdf\">application form<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><u>Universitaly pre-enrollment application<\/u>, duly signed. NB: the pre-enrollment application must not be \u201cunder reserve\u201d, except in case of mandatory language test and entrance exams to be taken in Italy at the Italian University;<\/li>\n<li><u>Proof of accommodation<\/u> in Italy: hotel booking \/ lodging rental contract \/ university accommodation \/ <a href=\"https:\/\/ambhelsinki.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Letter-of-accommodation.pdf\">letter of accommodation<\/a> (along with the host\u2019s ID);<\/li>\n<li>One way <u>travel ticket<\/u>\/reservation to Italy or proof of financial means for <u>repatriation;<\/u><\/li>\n<li><u>Health insurance policy <\/u>for medical treatments and hospitalization: 1) destination must be ITALY, 2) the insurance coverage must be listed in detail;<\/li>\n<li><u>Proof of financial means<\/u> (minimum amount \u20ac 10.179,85\/year) shown through one or more of the following:\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li>Personal last 6 months bank statement;<\/li>\n<li>Proof of scholarship;<\/li>\n<li>Sponsorship: copy of a valid ID document of the sponsor (max 4<sup>th<\/sup> degree of kinship), letter of sponsorship with handwritten signature, bank statement of the last 6 months, address of residence of the sponsor, email and phone number. Accepted sponsors: relatives living abroad; Italian\/foreign citizens living in Italy;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><u>Return travel ticket or proof of sufficient financial means for repatriation<\/u> (the proof is considered in addition to the minimum yearly income requirement of \u20ac 10.179,85);<\/li>\n<li><u>Study degree\/diploma<\/u> and<u> related documentation<\/u>\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li><u>Applicant enrolling in BA\/Level I Academic Diploma\/Single cycle Laura Magistrale must deliver the following<\/u>:\n<ol>\n<li>High school diploma obtained after 12 years schooling, <u>original<\/u> (not photocopy) &#8211; it will be given back once the Visa decision is taken;<\/li>\n<li>CIMEA Comparability Certificate + CIMEA Verification certificate. As an alternative, Declaration of Value;<\/li>\n<li>Academic eligibility certificate only in case it is required to access Academic Institutions in the applicant\u2019s Country of origin;<\/li>\n<li>Certified translation into Italian of high school diploma and Academic eligibility certificate if required, see above.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><u>Applicant enrolling in MA\/Level II Academic Diploma \/PhD\/Specialization Diploma\/Level II Academic Master must deliver the following<\/u>:\n<ol>\n<li>Diploma Degree allowing corresponding to EQF level 6 or 7 (i.e. BA diploma, MA diploma), <u>original<\/u> (not photocopy) &#8211; it will be given back once the Visa decision is taken;<\/li>\n<li>CIMEA Comparability Certificate + CIMEA Verification certificate. As an alternative, Declaration of Value;<\/li>\n<li>Certificate issued by the foreign academic institution listing the exams the applicant passed + detailed study program;<\/li>\n<li>Not mandatory: translation into Italian of Diploma certificate and Exams certificate<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><u>Language certification<\/u>:\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>Academic course in Italian: certification of knowledge of Italian language B2 (QCER), unless the language knowledge has already been verified by the Italian University;<\/li>\n<li>Academic course in foreign language: at least B2 (QCER) certification of knowledge of the language in which the course is taught;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><u>Payment receipt<\/u> of \u20ac 50,00 (payment information will be given via email);<\/li>\n<li><u>Passport-style photo<\/u>: white background, no older than 6 months; Photo must follow the ICAO requirements as indicated in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icao.int\/sites\/default\/files\/FAL\/Annex_A-Photograph_Guidelines.pdf\">page<\/a>;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>CONTACT INFORMATION<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After gathering <u>all the above-mentioned documentation<\/u>, the candidate is required to contact this Embassy via email as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recipient<\/strong>: consolato.helsinki(at)esteri.it<\/p>\n<p><strong>Subject<\/strong>: SURNAME Name &#8211; Study Visa application ready for submission<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attachments<\/strong>: 1) personal valid ID document; 2) Finnish Residence Permit<\/p>\n<p>This Embassy will process the application requests, and will propose an <strong>appointment<\/strong> for <strong>in person<\/strong> Study Visa application <strong>submission<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The applicant must appear\u00a0<strong>in person\u00a0<\/strong>at the appointment, bringing\u00a0<strong>all the required\u00a0documentation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>During the appointment<\/strong>, the Study Visa application will be submitted by delivering the aforementioned documentation and the applicant\u2019s biometric data (fingerprints and passport photo).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLEASE, NOTE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sending an email about appointment request <u>is not considered<\/u> as application submission.<\/p>\n<p>The Consular Section has full authority in evaluating the Visa request and could ask for\u00a0<u>further documentation and\/or an in person interview<\/u>.<\/p>\n<p>Submitting the required documentation does not guarantee the issuance of a Visa.<\/p>\n<p>Please, note the information outlined above may be subject to change without prior notice.
