VISA TYPE D for SALARIED EMPLOYMENT purposes

The visa for salaried employment purposes allows working in Italy. With a few exceptions (see below), it can be issued only if the Italian Immigration Authority (Sportello Unico per l’Immigrazione – SUI) has previously granted a No impediment Declaration (Nulla Osta). The No impediment Declaration (Nulla Osta) must be used within 6 months (4 months for the applications included in Article 27 of Legislative Decree 286/1998).

Please, note that only the following categories are exempt from the No impediment Declaration (Nulla Osta): seamen and shipboard personnel on cruise ships, sportsmen, private domestic staff of diplomatic officials and technical-administrative personnel (article 1, letter h, Vienna Convention, 1961), members of private personnel of consular officers and technical-administrative personnel (article 1, letter I, Vienna Convention, 1963).

According to specific cases, the applicant can send via email the No impediment declaration granted by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, by the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), or by the Italian Ministry of Labor and Social Policy (ex ANPAL).

The appointment must be requested by contacting the Consular Section at consolato.helsinki(at)esteri.it, and it will be arranged once the Consular Section receives the no impediment Declaration (Nulla Osta) from the Italian Immigration Authority (Sportello Unico per l’Immigrazione – SUI), or the alternative no impediment declarations mentioned above.

Processing time of the procedure: up to 90 days. It is recommended to contact the Consular Section with an adequate advance.

An incomplete application may be rejected or entail longer processing time.

The applicant must appear in person at the appointment, with all the required documents in original.

Documents to submit the day of the appointment:

  • Valid passport. Note that the passport must be valid for at least three months after the Visa expiration date, and must have at least two blank pages. The passport will be stored at this Embassy and given back together with the visa, if approved;
  • Valid Finnish residence permit;
  • Duly completed application form;
  • Proof of accommodation in Italy: booking confirmation, rental contract, letter of accommodation (along with the host’s ID);
  • One way ticket reservation to Italy;
  • Passport-style photo: white background, not older than 6 months;
  • Health insurance policy: please note that the destination must be ITALY, and the insurance coverage must be reported in detail;
  • Payment receipt of 116,00 euro (payment information will be given via email).

The Consular Section has full authority to evaluate the request and can ask for further documentation and/or a personal interview, if deemed necessary, in addition of the documentation that has already been submitted.

Submitting the required documents does not guarantee the issuance of a visa.

The information outlined above may be subject to change without prior notice. No liability will be accepted for the consequences of such changes.
